Bring On The Goodies

Babette said it's that time, and she was ready to make some nick-knacks or goodies for this evolving Christmas House.  So, she sat down and started crafting all of the neat little items shown below; and, I think she did pretty darn good job too!  They really do look authentic.  Check out these reproductions of an Amazon box, FedEx box, and a standard shipping box which she tied on a bow with red baker's twine.  These will be set outside the front door.

She also figured a mug of hot cocoa plus a gingerbread cookie would be a nice addition; must be a chilly morning around the old house.  I'll bet they're gonna taste good too.  Babette is 1 talented woman.  She sculped each piece before putting them in the oven so the clay could harden.  When dry, she applied the paint and yummy toppings.

Here are miniaturized versions of several magazines, including an old Sears Christmas catalogue.  The one in the upper left hand corner (Holiday Crafts) is Better Homes and Garden's most recent issue for the 2020 holidays.  It features 1 of Babette's wooden pieces the magazine chose for this year's edition.  I am truly proud of all her accomplishments, and this is the 2nd time the magazine has featured 1 of her wooden pieces.

These 3 pics show a miniaturized version of Babette's own original Santa Claus designs.  Normally they range anywhere from 3' - 6' in height.  She wanted to display 1 of her designs for our Christmas house, so this particular Santa was chosen.  He normally stands about 5' tall, but for it to be to scale, this little guy could not be more than 5" tall.  The parts were carefully cut out of 1/4" plywood to make sure all of the tiny pieces came out the way they were drawn; no boo-boos tolerated. 😁   After being cut and sanded, Babette did her magic to paint and dress the little guy so he would look just like his bigger brother, only smaller.   She Done Good, and he looks just like the full size version.

Next she painted this little sign to hang behind the porch swing.  Using the same 1/4" plywood, I cut the square per Babette's instructions and then made the small frame to go around all 4 sides.

Last on the goodie list for today was this neat looking little mail box.  Talk about some delicate cutting, the wood used for this little booger was only about 1/8" thick; it's more like balsa wood. It is also a very soft wood which required more attention to make sure I did not make any screw-ups.  One mistake on the scroll saw with type of wood and it's basically back to square one - try again dude!  She made all the tiny envelops and put them in the mailbox.  Looks like it's full and someone needs to take them inside.  I'm sure there are some bills to be paid that are mixed in with the other mail.   😄

So, here are all of the neat new goodies Babette made for our Christmas house.  Each is displayed the way Babette currently sees them on the front porch area.  Whether this becomes their final spot or not will depend on how she sees the big picture at the end.  The front porch light was also wired and hung just outside the front door.  We had a tiny switch left over from our recent Halloween House project, so it was rigged up right inside the door so it would be easier to turn the light on or off.
I think these new items add a lot of character to this house; and the good thing, there is still more to come!
