Completed doll house makeover that is; the Christmas House is done and now on display in our home. For those who may not have seen how it looked in the beginning, here it is before we started … "The Bash" process. Yeah, it's rather plain and sad looking as it sits; no character whatsoever; you know, BLAH! Therefore, it qualified as a good project for Babette and me to transform, and apply her vision of what a country Christmas House might look like during the holiday season. HO-HO-HO!!!
Right from the get-go, Babette knew exactly what she was going to do to give this house more charm, not to mention, that desperately needed holiday feel. So began the transformation process to remake it into what it is today. And the best part, it is being displayed on top of the same box and in the same window as our Halloween House. This Christmas farm house project turned out better than we had originally hoped, and will be a great addition to our home decorations, which by the way, will soon be full of all sorts of other Christmas goodies for us to enjoy. I truly love this time of year. To me, it's a calming and joyous time Babette & I get to spend with family and friends. Decorating our home is a lot of work, but when completed (about 3 days), always looks great to us; so, the results justifies the time and effort we put into achieving the feel Babette wants. On that day, when everything is in place, we like to get a glass of wine, turn on all the lights (might need sunglasses), and then plop our butts down in the middle of it all to simply enjoy the beauty within our home. I count myself as being a truly blessed and lucky man.
It wasn't in our original plans to do anything to the truck; we actually thought it was going to look good as is; however, after Babette put some snow on the house and around the yard areas, it was plain to us both, the truck needed some snow too in order to look like a natural part of the scene. As it sat, this baby was simply too clean and looked out of place. So, Babette strategically placed a little bit of that fake snow on the truck to give it a more realistic look. Now, she's all dressed up and ready to go to the party.
Of course, if you're going to make a Christmas House, you also know some Christmas music in the background is a necessity. My ever resourceful wife found, and ordered, this little wind up music box which plays White Christmas …. Excellent choice honey! I took a thin piece of wood to attach the music box, drilled the necessary hole for the crank on the side of the house, and then screwed it just inside the back door area close to where the battery boxes are located. It's also out of the way and an easy access point if needed.
So, here is the finished product, along with a few close-ups to show some of the detailed areas around the home. At the end is a short video with the Christmas music in the background. Hope you've enjoyed our little project. Babette's and my goal was to try and bring this old doll house to life, and give it that Christmas feel; I think we succeeded. The new look is most definitely different from when we started.
Looks like we're probably going to do 1 more house, a Saltbox New England style home, which we hope will fit in with our Americana decorations. Hell, with Babette in charge of the decorating process, I'm confident it too will turn out looking real good. Her mind never rests; more than likely it will soon be running at Warp Speed trying to figure out all of the goodies, and/or special effects she plans to build into that next project! We'll see what happens come next Summer.
I ❤️ This! It looks absolutely beautiful. I love all the details on the exterior of the house, very festive. Merry Christmas🎄
